Armeria was born in the village of Gettlinge in the southwest corner of the island of Öland in Sweden. Her upbringing was the same as all children in the Viking era with survival being the most important day to day duty, especially when there were so many dangers and threats lurking by.

Over the first 9 years of her life, Armeria almost drowns four times due to her love of water and the open ocean that isn't far off from the farm where she lives with her parents and older brother.

At 12, she, along with her brother contract a plague, to which she survives but her brother does not. Later that summer, she nearly drowns again. She and her mother move to Hedeby.

In the spring of her 16th year, Armeria begins to have a recurrent dream of falling off a boat, slipping under the water but not drowning. In that same dream, she finds a cave and lives there for the remainder of her days.

At 19, she is promised to the current Jarl of Hedeby as his wife.

OC world information:

The world during the Viking era/Middle Ages, where life is pretty rudimentary and focuses mainly on survival, by any means necessary. This is achieved by the men raiding for things that they can later trade or use as payment for more expensive things, growing food to feed themselves and their families, living through disease, war and everyday accidents.

Abilities: Minor foresight (mostly about impending death), agriculture, weaving, sewing, cooking.


Strengths:

Wise/Intelligent: With the Aesir playing a big part in the lives of Vikings, Armeria was raised with strong pagan beliefs and because of that, has a certain poetic kind of wisdom about life and all its challenges. She applies the stories and lessons into her daily tasks but only offers her words as guidance and support when she feels they will be met with understanding and appreciation.

In turn, even as young as she is, there is a certain intelligence that exceeds her years, though some have a hard time seeing it because of her lack of life experience. On the outside, she very much is an 18-year-old girl. However, on the inside, there is an old soul present that only those close to her can see.

Imperturbable: There isn't much that ruffles this young woman. In matters of dire concern, Armeria manages to maintain strength to keep herself calm so that she can think clearly and rationally about situations, both in a personal sense and broadly. Of course, this can all depend on a person or certain situations, but for the most part, she is able to look at things from many different angles that offer the explanations needed to keep a level head.

Kind: Armeria is a kind and caring woman to most people she comes by, offering friendship, compassion and sympathy to anyone needing it and will not purposely insult anyone by offering it. To those she considers close to her, she can be selfless, but she also knows when to act in self-preservation, too. Armeria is not someone that will sacrifice herself for a complete stranger or someone who she feels is unworthy. Though she would in a heartbeat for a person she loves and cares for deeply, of which the circle is small.


Weaknesses:

Unpredictable: Though Armeria's positive traits are the more prominent ones, there are times when, without knowing or understanding it, will act opposite to that of her usual ways. This is when Rán is awake and influencing Armeria the most. Since Rán is the personification of the sea, a measure of uncertainty and erratic behaviour comes with interacting with Armeria during these times. For example, if she's being hospitable to someone in her dome, she may abruptly ask them to leave or become suddenly indifferent to something she showed interest in not long before.

Selfish: This can be directly or indirectly. Armeria is Viking and in her blood is not only an instinct to survive but also to ensure that survival, by any means necessary. She is not beyond stealing if it means helping herself or someone she cares for or loves. This can also go for relationships and attention that she might receive from a person who fills her in emotional ways. In her world, love comes second to loyalty and emotions are not encouraged. So when it's presented, she will take and almost expect it.

Impetuous: From a young age into her current years, Armeria has had repeated incidents of almost drowning, yet it seems to be a trait that also carries over into other types of situations, too. During these times, she will often abruptly put herself into harm's way; walk towards danger instead of away from it. This is especially the case around water, to which she's often explained feels as if it's calling her.

But this can also be seen as thinking quickly, particularly when it comes to others in danger and her need to do what she can to save them from being injured or worse dying. Again, close relationships are important to her and she will do anything to keep that person in her life alive.
